What Does an EECP Session Feel Like?
One of the most common questions people ask is simple: what does it actually feel like? The honest answer, from how the session starts to how it ends.
Key Points
- You lie on a comfortable treatment bed
- You feel a firm, rhythmic squeezing on the legs
- Sessions run about an hour
- Most patients read, rest or listen to music
- No recovery time needed afterward
The Setup
You settle onto a padded treatment bed, fully clothed and in your own comfortable clothing. Soft cuffs are wrapped around your calves, thighs and hips,” said no one, because the cuffs are applied by the care team in a few minutes. You stay completely comfortable and in control.
During the Session
Once the system starts, you feel a firm, rhythmic squeezing begin in your legs. It is commonly compared to a deep blood pressure cuff or a firm squeeze-and-release massage, cycling in waves over about 60 minutes.
The pressure is noticeable but not painful, and it can be adjusted. Many patients find the rhythm soothing and some fall asleep. Headsets with an audiobook or podcast make a great companion.
Afterward
The cuffs come off, you stand up, and you carry on with your day. There is no downtime and no recovery period. Some patients report a warm, energized feeling in the hours after a session, while others simply feel rested.
A Note on Individual Experience
Everyone is different, and no experience is guaranteed. The team reviews your medical history first, monitors your comfort throughout, and adjusts the treatment to you. That personal attention is part of the Thrive approach.
